This volume forms a complement to Ingrid Kasten's Deutsche Lyrik des frühen und hohen Mittelalters in the same series, which appeared in 1995, presenting a representative selection of the Middle High German lyric from the beginnings to Wolfram von Eschenbach. Burghart Wachinger now presents a selection from the work of twenty-four named poets from Otto von Botenlauben (d. c.1244) to Oswald von Wolkenstein (d. 1445), and four short anonymous sections (Granum sinapis, 'Aus der Limburger Chronik', Nu biten air den heiligen geist, In dulei jubilo). Like the other volumes in the 'Bibliothek des Mittelalters' it offers an aesthetically printed text on India paper, with a parallel translation, and a generous appendix of notes (pp. 609-1022), all the more valuable by virtue of the authority of the editor, whose numerous publications on the love lyric extend over a period of forty years. …
