In keeping with the series, the editors offer a fairly extensive survey as introduction, along with a select bibliography. All but three essays (those of KIassen and Heijkant, and Thompson's on postmodern literature) have been previously published. B. J. Whiting surveys Gawain's reputation from Wace to T. H. White; Rachel Bromwich looks at Welsh chronicle and tradition; Friedrich Wolfzettel, William A.
