Richard MacMinn and Patrick Brockett

The American Risk and Insurance Association and its membership express profound gratitude to Patrick Brockett and Richard MacMinn for the service they provided to the profession during their three 3-year terms as editors of the Journal of Risk and Insurance.

With Richard and Patrick at the helm, the JRI moved forward in several important ways. They put the journal online with their first issue in March 1998, changed the management from paper to electronic, created a web-based editorial database to improve the efficiency of the editorial process, got JSTOR to archive the journal back to the first issue in 1933, moved the journal web pages to a commercial server, and its publication to Blackwell. Patrick and Richard increased the number of pages in the JRI, allowing for more articles to be published. During their editorship the journal grew in stature as an international research outlet, with over 50 percent of the submissions now from outside of the United States. They also oversaw more than an 80 percent increase in the rate of annual submissions.

Patrick and Richard's good judgment and high standards served to strengthen the superior quality of the articles published in the JRI, which continues to represent some of the best scholarship in the discipline. …
