The Society has agreed to explore closer formal collaborations with the Royal Institute of Public Health (RIPH). The two organizations will discuss ways of working together to best provide leadership in supporting public health professionals in the UK and abroad, with a decision expected in the summer.

The two bodies are already cooperating closely, including offering reciprocal benefits to their members. The organizations' respective staff and trustees will investigate a number of options, ranging from joint services and programmes, through to full merger.

I am not the first to observe the significant power that our two bodies could potentially exert by working together,' said Society Chief Executive Professor Richard Parish. 'Indeed, I'm sure our Members will recall the merger talks in 2004.

'Both organizations have changed a great deal over the last few years. They are now much stronger, in reputation, in action, and financially. Our approach is therefore somewhat different to 2004. …
