Periodically Yours . . . THE 1990 SALISBURY CONFERENCE

The Literature/Film Conference for 1990 will be held again at Salisbury State University June 6th through June 9th and proposals for papers and sections are welcome until the end of April. Serious consideration was given to moving the Conference to another site this year, but I would like to explain why Salisbury was our choice. The main reason was that we could expect to turn out a larger number of conferees. People who had attended the Conference in 1988 and 1989 wrote and called to request that we stay in Salisbury, since the facilities are reasonably good and they found the atmosphere congenial. I personally had doubts about how many people might attend if we moved the Conference to the Midwest at this time, despite the fine facilities at Ball State University. We also considered North Carolina State University, and we may eventually move the Conference there, but if and when that happens, we would like to link the Conference to a sponsored Film Festival, and planning time was simply not sufficient for 1990.

The idea for 1990 was also to have co-sponsorship with the Historians Film Committee so that John O'Connor could showcase his Film as Artifact video compilation, a teaching video designed for historians but also useful for other film scholars. Since 1990 is an off-year for the IAMHIST International Congress, Professor O'Connor would be available if the Conference were in Salisbury. …
