This special issue of Studies offers a glimpse into the minds of writers, researchers, and teachers who work at imagining the Earth as a better place for all who share this fragile and endangered ground. Because of their persistent interests in the environmental movement, Laurie Hicks and Roger J. H. King were invited to open the issue with a guest editorial. To our great joy, following the editorial is a conversation between activist, artist fames Marriott and art critic, teacher Suzi Gablik. The ensuing body of articles by schohrs jan jagodzinski, fames Bequette, Mark Graham, and Sally Gradle raises awareness and offers possibilities for integrating eco-knowledge into the essential work we do as art educators. Following the articles is a timely book review by Karen Heid and Zach Kelehear on Nel Noddings'The Challenge to Care in Schools: An Alternative Approach to Education. At the conclusion is a commentary by Ron Neperud, a stalwart in art education who has, from the very beginning, led and promoted the "connected" life. …
