This hymn collection focuses on the Beatitudes as found in the gospel of Matthew with the one hymn, Kingdom Coming, based on the gospel of Luke. This collaborative effort of Amanda and Richard, both active members of The Hymn Society, presents a valued resource on the topic of the Beatitudes. The texts alone by Richard are a source for study and reflection

Amanda Husberg has served for the last 42 years as Director of Music for St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, New York. She has over 100 hymn tunes published in various hymnals and supplements in not only the United States, but also in Canada, Brazil and China.

Richard Leach is a leading contemporary writer of texts for hymns and anthems. He has been a pastor in the United Church of Christ and he began writing hymn texts in 1987. He is published in many independent hymnals, hymn supplements and in certain denominational publications.

Sixteen hymns and a chant setting of Psalm 116, as a response to the Beatitudes, are included in this volume. Each musical selection has a printing of the text only, scripture reference to the words and a comment on the meaning of the text. Amanda tells us how she came to name many of her hymn tunes.
