It includes information on over 8,500 Old and Middle English texts, many of them previously uncatalogued, in American and British libraries and museums, accompanied by six indexes (author, title, translator, Thorndike-Kibre equivalence, manuscript, and subject) and a bibliography of facsimiles and recent or standard editions. The editors take full advantage of the possibilities of the electronic format by offering a variety of search possibilities and cross-referencing, including such thoughtful features as separate entries for prologues and texts (which often have independent textual histories), easy access to the incipits of other texts in the same manuscript, and cross-references between a Latin incipit and the first words in English whenever the vernacular text begins in Latin. …
