Unlike the two preceding Web sites, Classics Today operates independently of any print resource. Instead it maintains a partnership with a similar site in French (www.classicstodayfrance.com); a consensus group of best recordings of the month is posted on both Web sites. The reviews are by a handful of critics, some of whom have written about music for other publications as well; Jed Distler, for example, also contributes regularly to Gramophone. A link that is intended to give biographical information on the writers unfortunately leads only to a listing of critics' names.

Classics Today has over 11,000 reviews that cover the entire range of classical music, and claims to post five new reviews each weekday (although I found that one or even two reviews were often carried over from one day to the next). The means for searching are the most extensive and well organized among the sites examined here. In addition to keyword searching for titles of works or recordings, a series of dropdown boxes allows searching by Composer, Genre, Record Label, Medium (CD, SACD, and DVD), Date (limited to the following options: past two weeks, past month, and past two months), Artist (further divided into soloist, conductor, and ensemble) or any combination thereof. …
