LIFE magazine began its first issue in 1936 with the words, "Life Begins." With this premier issue of the JOURNAL OF BUSINESS & ENTREPRENEURSHIP, a new phase of "Business and Entrepreneurship Begins." Business owners and managers, university professors, government officials and others have all been working toward the improvement of the discipline with no specific vehicle to assist them. JBE is intended to provide the vehicle through which their findings could be shared with their counterparts.

The mission of the JBE is to provide the participants in business and entrepreneurship a forum where each can become better aware of the others' problems, methodologies, discoveries and positions. Articles will be solicited from the various sectors of the field to accomplish JBE's mission. Cutting edge material published in the JBE will give authors a platform for constructive criticism of their studies. Through this process, business, academe and government will be armed with more and better information about other participants in this vital discipline.

The JOURNAL OF BUSINESS & ENTREPRENEURSHIP is the offspring of the Southwestern Small Business Institute Association (SSBIA), a regional division of the Small Business Institute Directors' Association (SBIDA). I sincerely thank the many SSBIA members who were instrumental in the JBE's conception and who continue to support the JBE with constructive input and hard work. …
