Norton Marks and Subhash Durlabhji and their staffhave done an admirable job in guiding the JB&E toward successively higher levels of excellence over the past several years. All of SSBIA's membership join us in expressing our heartfelt thanks for their fine contributions to the success and improvement of this publication. As your new editors, we will endeavor to continue the excellent work forged by our predecessors.

The first three articles are the top papers from the 1995 SSBIA Conference in Houston. Congratulations to authors Jackson, Cappel, Wright and Kroll who garnered the best paper award with their assessment of incremental innovations and performance in small businesses. Researchers Carland, Carland, Carland, and Pearce were first runners up with their investigation into risk taking propensity among entrepreneurs, small business owners, and managers. The second runners up in the SSBIA best paper competition were Box and Watts with their study of CEO characteristics and the adoption of TQM in small manufacturing firms.

Morris and Jones furnish an in-depth discussion of relationships among environmental turbulence, in human resource management, and corporate entrepreneurship. Selby and Marsh probe into another environmental element with a look at a trend analysis of computer usage in small business. …
