It seems that most presses and many academic hours could not be covered if academics and freelance upholders of culture were not in constant argument over the nature and accomplishment of art and its role in all cultures, this time American. Doris centers on so-called "pop" art, a shorthand term applied to popular art which began in the 1960s and eventually legitimatized itself in the eyes of the gatekeepers by overwhelming them. It was not an easy talk to break down the barriers of the established and become a living part of American culture. But, like all movements which bear the strength of the public common sense, this one prevailed. Doris outlines how the trick was done.
