Note on Registratur AA.3: Guide to the SWAPO Collection in the Basler Afrika Bibliographien Giorgio Miescher (comp.) Basler Afrika Bibliographien Namibia Resource Centre and Southern Africa Library, 2006 3rd ed., revised and enlarged, 322 p.

In his useful introduction to this catalogue, Giorgio Miescher briefly describes the nature of the copious SWAPO Collection at the Basler Afrika Bibliographien in Switzerland. The South West Africa People's Organisation was the Namibian nationalist organisation that came to power at independence, as Swapo of Namibia, in 1990. The holdings at Basel consist of publications and other material by SWAPO, produced in a number of African and European cities, as well as documents about SWAPO by members, supporters and opponents; it does not, however, include any internal SWAPO notes or minutes. Miescher's introduction also briefly indicates the location of other SWAPO material in archives around the world, and summarises the recent historiography of the Namibian liberation struggle.

The central and longest section of the book is dedicated to a detailed listing of the SWAPO Collection. …
