The Kingsbury Tales: Make Person, at Blue Sky

This is strange for I am writing this poem along with my students

In a classroom, an experience that I have never experienced before

If only because rhey are also writing poetry or poetries

Last night, at Blue Sky Café near yichu lianhua or Easy and Initial Lotus Flowers

Ali and I were talking about the use of "make" related phrases

And I was telling him my side of the story, that is, what happens to my protagonist

In an unpublished novel, who is learning English but can't even begin to "make person"

To resolve the issue, he lists everyrhing with a "make" in it: make love make war make

Mistakes make believe make haste make money make whatever but not make person

I then told Ali about Fang who had a famous saying that goes: xian zuo ren, hou zuo shi

Which means, in direct translation: Make person first, do things later

That sounds a bit like xianzhan houzou: Behead first, report it to the emperor later

But I'm just joking for what this means is that in Chinese culture, I said to Ali

Making person means you have to become a proper person who does things

In a proper way and deals with the world at large in a proper manner

A concept that places the person or making person above everyrhing ebe

Unlike what they do in Australia where rhey make money first before rhey
