Two people-potential lovers?-are walking in the city at evening when they turn a corner into a secluded street where the perfect light of near dusk creates a moment that seems suspended in time by the "strange equations of the light, the vagrant wind searching the trees." Anything seems possible in this perfect microcosm-"a quiet, tree-lined street, only one block long, resting between the noisy avenues"-but the moment of "brief conjunction of our separate lives" passes, and the two turn the corner back into their separate lives.

The composer has set this interesting poem both as a duet for soprano and tenor (or baritone with some note adjustments) and as a solo for high voice. …
