Dear ABNF Members and Journal Readers:

The year 2007 is fast approaching. May the New Year ring each of you prosperity and peace!

2006 has been an interesting and innovative year for me. My personal and professional life changed dramatically-I married a wonderful man; and I retired. However, I have never known a time in my life when I didn't have some kind of job. This year has not been different. Let me explain.

This summer at our annual conference in St. Thomas, U.S. V.l., I met Dr. Bobbie Perdue. Sometime during that conference, Dr. Perdue asked me if I would consider coming to South Carolina State University (SCSU) to work with her faculty. I felt up to the challenge, and so I accepted her invitation. Dr. Perdue had just become the Director of the Nursing Program at SCSU. She had a virtually young faculty who had not had much experience in baccalaureate education. The administration was supportive of the nursing program and willing to give it support. In August, Bobbie invited me to the Fall orientation. It was an experience I had never had. Two other nurses were also invited to discuss accreditation and team building. If you know Bobbie Perdue, you know that we worked long hours, but no one complained. Indeed, it was almost like a retreat-seeds were planted. They now needed to be tended for growth.

During the Fall Semester, I spent three to five days each month working with the faculty. …
