Luke Paul Wilson was born on January 19, 1949 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, the second of the six children of John and Lois (Steed) Wilson. The family moved to Grand Rapids when Luke was young, when his father began a 33-year biblical teaching career at Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College. Luke came to Christ after hearing the testimony and seeing the immersion of a believer in their local Baptist church. He attributed the means of his conversion to praying the sinner's prayer with his mother. Luke loved flying and had his pilot's license on his 16th birthday before his graduation from Creston High School. He received his B.R.E. degree from Grand Rapids Baptist College in 1971, and his M.T.S. degree from Calvin Theological Seminary in 1990.

Luke met his future wife, Bertha Island, at a summer Christian Development Center south of Grand Rapids. They were married on July 14,1974, in the backyard of Luke's parents, in a ceremony presided over by Luke's father John. Two children, Zoe and Karisa, were born in Grand Rapids before Luke and Bertha moved to Muskegon, MI to do home missions work for a few years. Nathan was born in Muskegon around 1981 before the family returned to Grand Rapids where Vida joined the family. Luke was Director of Public Information for Michigan Right to Life from 1984-88 and edited their newsletter. From 1991-2007 Luke was on the board of Grand Rapids Right to Life, and Bertha was also beginning in 1994. …
