This book is an off-spring of the long running and successful Environmental Change book by Andrew Goudie (1977) which went on to three editions. This new book has a wider perspective, two additional authors, a change of title and two new chapters. Chapter 1 puts the Quaternary period into context and looks at some of the history surrounding ideas of environmental change. Chapter 2 gives a new brief overview of some of the sources of proxy evidence and dating techniques. Chapters 3-6 give information about past environmental changes separating high/medium from low latitudes and ancient changes from those in the post-glacial and instrumental record times. Chapter 7 is on sea-level changes. Chapter 8 is new and devoted to the whole of human history and its relationship to environment.
