The official launch of the Earth Charter took place at the Peace Palace in The Hague on 29 June 2000. The Earth Charter in Action - Toward a Sustainable World is the journey through stories and case studies of the Earth Charter since its launch.

The book illustrates the rich diversity of uses of the Earth Charter, from educational, political, institutional and social influences. The essays and art work inspired by the Earth Charter from both the developed and developing world, from diverse faiths and across all generations are full of optimism.

The contributors include Wanagari Maathai - 2004 Nobel peace prize winner; Mikhail Gorbachev - President of Green Cross International; Jane Goodall - renowned international advocate for wildlife and many other notable authors who have been part of development and implementation of the Earth Charter.

The format of the book is based on the structure of the Earth Charter. Each chapter is prefaced with a section of the Earth Charter i.e. Preamble, Values and underlining principles. So the reader sees the connection between the intent of the Earth Charter framework and the impact of the actions as a result.
