This set of three books collects together papers on heritage tourism of the past 20 or so years, but with a clear focus on the 1990s. Each volume is fronted by an introduction by the editor. These introductions emphasise what the editor considers the key overall points of the collected papers. For managerial issues these are shortages of funding, questions of who should pay, colonial legacies, modernisation and environmental destruction.

The introduction to the second volume includes a typology of heritage tourists and a review of motivations. However, much less attention is given in this introduction to the experiential element which the title of the volume would suggest it is supposed to be about. …
