The Board of Directors of Opera San Jose have launched a capital campaign to help fund the new Irene Dalis Opera Center. Through an exciting opportunity presented by the San Jose Redevelopment Agency, construction of the Center will begin this spring. Adjacent to the Children's Discovery Museum, the new rehearsal hall will provide a permanent place for the forty-six week rehearsal schedule of the company. Dr. Dalis is the founder and executive director of Opera San Jose, and the director of the opera training program at San Jose State University. Over 228,000 people heard Opera San Jose artists during the 1986-87 season.

Owen Jander (Wellesley College) lectured on Mozart's influence on Beethoven at a two-day conference on "Considerations of style and technique in performing the piano works of Mozart" (April 9-10,1988) sponsored by the Westfield Center for Early Keyboard Studies.
