Cellist Anner Byslma and forte-pianist Malcolm Bilson will present a lecture-performance on Thursday, June 19,1986, at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall at San Jose State University. Sponsored by the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies, the lecture-performance will concern performance of Beethoven's chamber works on original instruments. Byslma and Bilson will be in the Bay Area performing the complete Beethoven sonatas for violoncello and fortepiano as part of the 1986 San Francisco Beethoven Festival.

The two performers presented a concert of the two Sonatas, Op. 5, last June 7 at Jordan Hall in Boston as part of the Boston Early Music Festival. The Boston Globe's reviewer, who titled the review, "Now Beethoven is 'early music,'" found much to praise in the balance between the two instruments and in the performances themselves.

Cellist Anner Byslma was principal cellist with the renowned Concertgebouw Orchestra for six years before changing gears toward chamber music with an emphasis on the Baroque cello. His recordings are available on the Telefunken, EMI, Philips, Harmonia Mundi, Pro-Arte, and Seon labels. …
