At its last meeting of 2007, the board of trustees said farewell and thank you to the three of its members whose terms expired: Austin Brockenbrough, III, of Manakin-Sabot, Susan S. Goode of Norfolk, and Grady W. Powell of Petersburg. The board appointed a new chairman, J. Stewart Bryan, III, of Richmond; a new vice chairman, W Taylor Reveley, III, of Richmond; and a new regional vice president, Grady W. Powell of Petersburg. The board then elected trustees to fill the vacancies left by those who rotated off the board.

Edward L. Ayers of Richmond received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee and earned a doctorate from Yale University. A leading scholar of the history of the American South, he has written numerous books and been a pioneer in digital media with an award-winning web site on the Civil War. He taught history at the University of Virginia and later served as the dean of arts and sciences there. Last year Dr. Ayers became the ninth president of the University of Richmond.

Anne Wilson Rowe of Fredericksburg attended Sweet Briar College and graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia. …
