Executive Committee Nominees

For President:

Deborah Carlton Loftis, a native of Richmond, Virginia, graduated from Furman University (B. A.), The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.C.M.), The University of Alabama (M.L.S.) and received the Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Kentucky in their joint program with the University of Louisville. In 1983 she was ordained to the ministry. She has served churches in Kentucky and Alabama as minister of music and for a time was music librarian for the Birmingham (AL) Public Library system. From 1999 to 2008 she was Professor of Church Music at Baptist Theological Seminary at Rchmond. Starting in the fall, she will continue at BTSR as Visiting Professor of Church Music. Recently she served on the Format and Organization subcomittee, chaired by Paul A. Rchardson, for the forthcoming Mercer University Press hymnal, Celebrating Grace: Hymnal for Baptist Worship. Deborah has been a member of the Hymn Society since her student days at seminary. Though it has continued for a longer time than she expected when she first signed up in 1979, she considers it a particular honor to prepare the annual index for THE HYMN.

For Treasurer:

Jacque B. Jones is a native of Texas who now calls New York home. She attended Baylor University and The University of Texas at Austin, where she received a BFA in theatre. She currently works in educational fundraising, and for the last 12 years has been responsible for the annual fund at an independent school in her neighborhood. As an active member of the laity at Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn, Jacque chaired the recent celebration of the 150th anniversary of the publication of The Plymouth Collection hymnal, a year-long event which was documented in her article which appeared in the winter 2007 issue of THE HYMN. She has been a member of the Hymn Society since 2003, and has been thrilled to be able to attend the last four Hymn Society conferences. Jacque has been writing in various forms all her life and in recent years has taken up the challenge of writing hymn texts. She resides in Brooklyn Heights, New York, with her husband and three children.

Tina Schneider is the reference librarian at The Ohio State University at Lima, which is in the northwest part of the state. This particular Lima is actually "LYE-ma," which sounds odd at first, but you get used to it. …
