LIKE STORIES, MOVIES, NOVELS, AND PLAYS, real life is filled with cliffhangers that keep us on our toes. GS formulations can help us evaluate our cliffhanger moments more effectively so we can move ever onward.

On our cover we present a work titled "Cliffhangers" by Katherine liepeLevinson, who also has a featured article in this issue. This enhanced photo was taken at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Las Vegas, Nevada during the Twelfth International Conference in General Semantics.

Katherine liepe-Levinson, in The Technology of Story and Human Survival as a Species (?), argues that story made us human-story made us a success as species. But ironically it may also be the very cause of our demise. In her critique she surveys some basic operational features and uses of story; human evolution and story; the minefields of story use; and some general semantics solutions.

Devkumar Trivedi, in Some Personal Observations on "Mind the Gap," says that between the territory and the map, general semantics can help us to mind the gap. Ben Hauck, in Developing the Experience of Group Mind asserts, when you appreciate the mind as thinking behavior rather than as a thing, you can then develop the mind. His article offers specific pointers on such development plus some fascinating insights on developing the group mind. Martin H. Levinson contributes an analysis of General Semantics and Emotional Intelligence and an excerpt from his latest book, Practical Fairy Tales for Everyday Living: Bucky The Time-Binding Beaver.

Valerie Peterson, in The Harlot Meets the General, argues that A[ristotelian] system logic is still in some way necessary, not as Korzybski interprets it, but in a simpler sense. It is part of the tacit agreement we take for granted whenever we write, intending to be read, and whenever we speak, intending to be heard and perhaps even understood. …
