Project Highlights

* Established a plan that was rooted in its rich physical history and could influence a $3 billion capital program already in progress and enhance the campus infrastructure both in sustainable and strategic ways

* Challenge was to intelligently use the limited land for development in a way that respects and reinforces the college's defining characteristics and balance the needs of the university and surrounding municipalities

* Early adoption of planning principles provided opportunities to see the positive impact of the planning effort almost immediately while supporting mission-critical projects

* Plan produced results at all scales-from the restoration of historic paving materials to the establishment of a regional transit hub

* Stormwater management plan proposed campus-wide strategies to improve the quality and reduce the rate of water runoff that passes through the watersheds and down to Lake Carnegie

* Landscape plans for the historic core emphasize stewardship of Princeton's design legacies through garden restoration and improvement of processional walkways

* Strong analytical diagrams and graphs support the rationale for recommendations

* Campus plan tried to maintain the ten-minute walk across campus

The project reinforces the importance of integrating the planning process into the institutional decision-making and implementation structure. …
