Project Highlights

* Consolidated the social science departments, created space for cross-disciplinary academic centers, and connected Dalton Hall to the adjacent Guild Hall, the College's underground computer center to form a dynamic, integrated Center for Collaborative Learning and Research

* Historic preservation of the masonry exterior, the re-emergence of the previously hidden roof trusses and the retention of a sense of industrial efficiency reflect a sensitive respect for the building's historic heritage

* Project contributes to a sense of place by reclaiming a building and exterior space that were isolated from the campus core by construction of other buildings

* Joining the two buildings created a far greater whole and supported two key goals of the plan: enhance the College's ability to recruit and retain the most qualified students and foster innovation without significant expansion

* Students now embrace Dalton as their favorite space on campus to attend classes, a vast improvement from former description as dank, dreary, dreadful - a place to be avoided
