This collection of art songs by Verdi contains seventeen songs, four single songs and two sets of six romanze. The seventeenth song is a second version of the "Brindisi" in the second set of Sei romanze. The front material consists of the Italian texts side by side with English translations. As is usual with Ricordi publications, there is no commentary on history or style; however, dates are given for the single songs and for each set of romanze. The dates are interesting if one would like to know whether a song containing a familiar melody or figure from one of Verdi's operas were composed as a study for arias to come.
