GRIEG, EDVARD (1843-1907). CENTENARY SONG ALBUM / JUBILÄUMS-LIEDERALBUM. Introductory notes by Beryl Foster. Medium (Original) Voice. Edition Peters, 2007. Includes a CD of piano accompaniments and pronunciation guides. CONTENTS: "I Love but Thee"; "Solveig's Song"; "A Swan"; "Album Lines"; "With a Water-lily"; "Last Spring"; "Greeting"; "The Time of Roses"; "A Dream."

In the Preface, Monica Jangaard, curator of the Grieg Museum in Troldhaugen, gives interesting information about Grieg's life and the influence of Norwegian nationalism on his music. Beryl Foster's introductory notes for each song present brief background information and a descriptive analysis of the song itself. Also included are the original Norwegian (or German) texts with an IPA transcription and an English translation. For the Norwegian texts, a German translation is also given. This centenary volume contains the best loved songs of Grieg, many of which are small masterpieces.
