NCSL and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), South Africa have developed a new, pilot qualification for their school businesses managers to improve their skills. This will have a real impact on the education and life chances of the million pupils studying in South Africa

Since the end of apartheid, a new education system and curriculum have been built under the vision of a Quality Learning Home for All. Half of pupils leave school before finishing Grade 12 (year 13 in English schools) and child poverty is a clear issue. Teacher development, access to relevant teaching and learning materials, school infrastructure, technology and safe school environments also have an impact on learning.
