Communicating in Relationships is a workbook designed to help couples learn how to improve their relationship by improving their communication skills. As the subtitle indicates, this workbook is intended to be useful to professionals (e.g., counselors, family life educators, clergy) as well as to couples. Certain sections of the workbook are written solely for practitioners, although the writing style in these sections is user friendly and should be clear to many lay readers as well.

The heart of this workbook consists of exercises to be done by individuals and couples. These exercises are accompanied by clearly written explanations of their purposes. Exercises focus on topics such as learning to communicate effectively, dual careers, sexual difficulties, spirituality, gender differences in communicating, issues surrounding divorce, and communicating with children.
