Together with Elisabeth of Thüringen, Margareta of Hungary is one of the most internationally known saints of the Hungarian Árpáder dynasty. Viktoria Hedvig Deák focuses her work on the analysis of the Legenda mawr of ¿:134o. It has recently been proposed that this work was written by the Dominican Garinus de Giaco, who also wrote the Legenda minor edited in the Acta sanctorum. In the first part of her work Deák presents the hagiographical sources of Margareta 's life and critically reflects on the results of the literature on this theme. The second part is dedicated to the conditions under which the text was written as well as to the hagiographical context of the Legenda maior. This context was dictated by Dominican hagiography during the time between 1230 and 1350 and is analysed in relation to the change in the medieval ideals of sanctity. Deák asks herself what might have impelled the Dominican order to take care of Margareta, since she was the first Dominican to whose canonization the order officially applied itself. …
