In September, IGS received a bequest from the estate of Martha Freeman Shia in the amount of $99,000. Ms. Shia was a teacher for many years in the New Haven, Connecticut area and a long-standing member of the International Society for General Semantics. We have also received a number of donations in the memory of Burton Miller, an IGS member from Willamette, Illinois.

The new IGS website is up and running. In addition to having all the information that was on the previous website, the new website has lots of new information as well as many new features, such as a site map and an updated forum. Check it out at www.generalsemantics.org

Ben Hauck has kindly consented to be the webmaster for our new and improved website. In addition to being highly proficient in the area of website maintenance and construction, Ben has a vast knowledge of general semantics. He recently taught a series of introductory GS lessons for the New York Society of General Semantics and had an article published in the July issue of ETC. We are lucky to have such a competent and clever fellow monitoring our site.

Two new trustees have been voted onto the IGS board. They are Corey Anton, Associate Professor in the School of Communications at Grand Valley State University, and Thomas Gencarelli, Associate Professor in the Communications Department at Manhattan College. Both gentlemen have had a long interest in general semantics and have utilized GS formulations in their teaching and writing.

Executive Director Lance Strate and ETC editor Bill Petkanas gave a panel presentation on general semantics at the New York State Communications Association Convention, which was held in Kerhonkson, New York in November. …
