The American Midland Naturalist has from time to time solicited reviewers for books we think have some merit and might be interest to our readers. However, we also receive books mat, although not entirely scientific in nature, hark back to the great books on natural history topics of years past, or as in the case of the review of Robert Frost: the Poet as Philosopher, Wilmington DE: ISI Books, 2007, ISBN 1 3- 978 1-933859-20-2, which was published in The American Midland Naturalist, 159: 509-51 1. During mese years of publishing original papers on a vast array of topics in ecology and biology as the editor, I have decided to list books that come close to the excellence of the great natural history books published by many of the great museum of the era. We currently have received two such books which not only contain excellent scientific description of specific taxa but also contain full color illustrations of superior quality:

The Great Minnesota Fish Book, Tom Dickson Illustration by Joseph R. Tomelleri, University of Minnesota Press, ISBN 978-0-8166-5135-1.

The Great Minnesota Fish Book pairs detailed descriptions of the history habitat and culture of over 100 species of fish found in the waters of Minnesota and adjacent area.
