This glossary is part of an educational site built around Sony Music's Essential Classics series of budget-priced recordings. Other elements of the site include very brief essays on musical eras and several dozen composers. The glossary is smaller than the others reviewed here in terms of the number of entries (several hundred terms are defined), and it is clearly aimed at a general audience (despite the site's claims that it will serve the serious music student as well). Definitions are uniformly brief and do not give the kind of depth that is provided, at least in some instances, by the other sources. "Mode" is defined here simply as "Scale or sequence of notes used as the basis for a composition; major and minor are modes". Language of origin is not given, nor is there any attempt to represent pronunciation. …
