Dennis Janzer holds a DMA degree in music composition and an MS in biomedical engineering. His compositions range from organ miniatures to large symphonic works. These facts aptly introduce his varied style in composing these hymn-based treatments for organ. His attention to detail, interesting counterpoint, full use of colors even for two-manual instruments, vibrant rhythms, and ear-pleasing harmonic settings all are skillfully blended to "paint" the text and mood of the hymns represented. The level of difficulty is from moderately easy to advanced. Pieces in these volumes work well for service playing and recital settings.

LOBE DEN HERREN is a toccata with a virtuosic pedal motive introduced near the climax as the trumpet en chamade plays the melody. "Reflections on AMAZING GRACE" is meditative, putting the melody in the pedal at 4' pitch, first with a soft reed, and finally, with a 4' flute. The "Prelude-Toccata on TOULON was commissioned by Northridge Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas, in celebration of its centennial in 2005. …
