The selections sung by The Lady Chapel Singers on this recording come primarily from the hymnal Voices Found: Women in the Church's Song. The album consists of diverse musical styles, which begin in the eighth century with Ex Illustri from Codex Las Huelgas, moving through liturgical, solo, and congregational song to the present. The hymns or songs focus on two Marys of the New Testament, Magdalene and Mother Mary, and other women of Scripture as well. There is a helpful, brief introduction, and fortunately the CD booklet includes all of the texts, and where necessary, English translations of non-English-language texts. The copyright notices are included in the jewel case behind the disk; one must remove the disk in order to read them fully.

The selections are quite varied: a cappella singing, solos, and SATB and SSA choral arrangements. …
