In memoriam: A very special loss of a very special life

Richard Miller passed away on May 5, 2009. This has entailed a major adjustment. I was always sure in my own mind that Richard would outlive me. He never smoked and I did for years. He took very good care of himself and I really didn't. True, he was six years older than I, but I felt his better habits would even things out. It didn't work out that way.

There has never been a singer more dedicated to his art and all its related areas. In looking over just his contributions to the NATS journal in its several forms, I am exhausted from reading all the titles. He was a very successful teacher. He had an uncanny gift for analyzing vocal problems and offering a solution. One would assume that of all singing teachers, but that is not necessarily true. There are many successful singers who are not good at analyzing and correcting vocal problems. …
