Bibliografia De Juan Ramon Jimenez

Article excerpt

Bibliografa de Juan Ramon Jimenez. By Antonio Campoamor Gonzalez. Huelva: Ediciones de la Fundacion Juan Ramon Jimenez, 1999. 943 pages.

This impressive, monumental volume is a most welcome addition to Juan Ramon Jimenez studies. Its author, Antonio Campoamor Gonzalez, is well known to us for his essential biography of the poet, Vida y poesia de Juan Ramon Jimenez (Madrid: Sedmay, 1976), and for his first careful and extensive bibliography, Bibliografia general de Juan Ramon Jimenez (Madrid: Taurus, 1983), the best of its kind, perhaps, for any twentieth-century Spanish writer.

The present bibliography, a corrected and expanded version of the first, has been many years in the making, the product of painstaking efforts to assemble the most complete and useful catalog of items by and about Juan Ramon Jimenez. The author has had access to all the bibliographical resources of Madrid, to all the Jimenez archives, in Moguer, Madrid, and Puerto Rico, and even to the Lenin Library of Moscow. Whereas the first Bibliografia of 1983 contains more than 9000 entries, the present work has more than 12,000.

This volume has everything one would expect of a good bibliography and more. The first part contains items by Juan Ram6n and includes lists of his creative works, translations, including those carried out in collaboration with his wife, Zenobia Camprubi, as well as journals and reviews (those which he founded and directed and those in which he collaborated), pro logues, a list of recordings of him while reading his poetry, and even very interesting lists of poems set to music or musical compositions based on or inspired by his own poems. …
