Come Away to the Skies: Hymns, Gospel Songs, and Spirituals

Now and then there are instrumental recordings of hymns and sacred songs that become popular. Dan Damon has created a solo piano CD of congregational song. He understands that these are congregational songs and hymns, and hence, one assumes that the reason he does not launch into elaborate arrangements is that he hopes some will choose to sing along with the recording. He includes the texts in the CD booklet for this purpose.

There is little "standard" hymn repertoire on the recording, with the exception of "Amazing grace" and "What a friend we have in Jesus." There are a few gospel songs, such as "Lily of the valley" and "The unclouded day." There are also some down east spirituals, e.g. "Sometimes I feel like a motherless child" and "Lonesome valley."
