THE NEW YORK CHAPTER LOOKS BACK AT OUR INAUGURAL SEASON IN 1995-96 WITH GREAT PRIDE. Our presentations for our members, as well as the public at large, were well attended and enthusiastically received. Many of our charter members and our Executive Board made generous contributions that enabled us to provide programs of the highest quality; and most importantly, we had sufficient funds to accomplish one of our fundamental goals, which is to help underwrite the costs of new acquisitions for the collection at the Beethoven Center (see the illustration of the Beethoven receipt earlier in this issue). We hope to increase our membership this year, and are exploring ways of reaching the very large potential membership in the New York area.

Our second season will offer three events. We are opening our season on Sunday, November 17 with an all-Beethoven piano recital by the noted Beethoven specialist Claude Frank, in the Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, to be followed by a reception for members. Claude Frank, a pupil of Artur Schnabel, has distinguished himself on the concert stage in solo and chamber music recitals, and has appeared with virtually every leading orchestra. His 1970 recording of the thirty-two Beethoven fortepiano sonatas on RCA (recently reissued on CD on the Music and Arts label) has received broad critical acclaim.

On Saturday, March 15, in the Lang Recital Hall at Hunter College, Karl Ulrich Schnabel will preside over a master class on Beethoven's piano music.
