The move is on! Carl, Mark, and I have been diligently working to prepare the office for the transition, and as I write in mid-September, one load of boxes has already arrived in Virginia on the campus of Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. If you've ever moved your residence, you know that attending to the many details of an address change can be quite a challenge. In between sessions in Boston learning how to transact the business of the Society, Pm busy in Richmond getting new stationery and mailing labels prepared, acquiring strong shelving for our Book Service inventory, setting up new bank accounts and phone service . . . well, you get the idea. The rest of the office will get packed, loaded, and transferred to Richmond during the first week in November. It will take some time to unpack and sort, but the plan is to have as litde downtime as possible and be up and running by the middle of November. We'll count on your patience for the few weeks when responses may come a little slower than usual.

One of my first tasks in November will be to hire someone as Administrative Assistant. It will be really hard to find a replacement for Mark! We'll need someone with strong computer knowledge, excellent interpersonal skills, an understanding of the work of ministers and musicians, and a love for hymnody. Quite a tall order, wouldn't you say? President Mel Bringle and Executive Committee Member at Large Adam Tice will assist me in the final interview stage and Pm confident that their wisdom will help in making the best choice.

I spent a fair amount of time these past two weeks in Boston learning more about the Society's past as I sorted files and read through important documents. …
