Schizophrenia, depressive disorder or bipolar disorders are chronic psychiatric diseases with serious devastating consequences for an individual's mental life. However, it is often forgotten that as much as the mentioned diseases damage mental health, they damage somatic health as well by their own course. So, we are witnesses to a systematic neglect of psychiatric patients' physical health which deteriorates equally as the mental health. This is why this book which deals with metabolic effects of psychiatric drugs is more than welcome as a textbook which will teach us about this big problem as well as a quotidian clinical manual for clinical practice. I would dare say that it is an algorithm that gives us guidelines in daily professional work with psychiatric patients.

The book has 9 chapters. The authors guide us through metabolic syndrome in schizophrenia, the connection between schizophrenia and inflammation, the same condition in bipolar disorder or depression, the abnormality of glucose and the occurrence of obesity in psychiatric patients. …
