After the publication of the Oct. 2009 issue (last issue of the 100 y celebration of the founding of The American Midland Naturalist) , I retired as managing editor. You will note that as the start of the 101st y of the Journal, the managing editor is Dr. Hope Hollocher. Dr. Hollocher is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Notre Dame, and a member of the Journal's Executive Committee since 2004. We are fortunate in having Hope willing to take over the task of guiding the Journal through the start of its second hundred years of publishing. With the ever increasing understanding of the machinery that drives this plant, this promises to be an exciting endeavor. I am convinced that Hope will bring bright and exciting things to the Journal.

I would be negligent if I did not offer my sincerest thanks to all the associate editors of The American Midland Naturalist, Assistant Editor Dr. Ken Filchak and Jennifer Moore and Kim Merz-Bogold, the Journal's present and past administrative assistants. Filchak and associate editors are volunteers and specialists in their areas of biology, having published successfully in their specialization. …
