A Closer Look at a Business Renaissance Executive: An Interview with Pegi Matsuda

Pegi Matsuda is publisher and president of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal. As publisher and president, she is responsible for directing all newspaper operations for the publication. Under her leadership, the publication has become an integral part of the local business community by publishing a nationally awardwinning business newspaper and by bringing business together to celebrate and recognize outstanding achievements made by local business leaders.

Prior to joining the Business Journal, she spent more than 20 years directing corporate marketing, operations, strategic planning, business development and sales and new product development for GTE Telephone Operations and Sempra Energy.

She is currently an officer and board member for the Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA), vice chairman of the board for the Valley Economic Development Center (VEDC), a member of the Woodbury University Board of Trustees and a member of the governing board for Valley Presbyterian Hospital.

She holds a M. A. Degree in Organizational Leadership from Woodbury University and a B.S. Degree in Human Relations and Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco. She currently resides in Studio City.

BRQ: What makes you a business renaissance executive?

PM: I think I do a good job of balancing the needs of our business with the needs of our employees. It's amazing how the little things make a big difference in terms of employee satisfaction. I don't know if I've ever told an employee that I didn't have time for a chat or to help them solve a problem. I put in extra hours every day so that I have more time to work with employees one-on-one.
