Physical Education: Participation, Partnership, Performance, Pleasure

The National Conference aims to reinvigorate your enthusiasm and encourage optimism in looking forward at a time when the profession has experienced tough challenges and change. Tertiary, secondary and primary teachers are invited to a forum that will focus on good practice and forward thinking about teaching and learning in Physical Education. Colleagues involved in sport, health and recreation are encouraged to join Physical Educators to ensure that we work collectively and collaboratively in enriching the education and development of well-rounded young New Zealanders.

The theme firstly points to "participation", the focus here falling on the opportunity for all young New Zealanders to participate in quality Physical Education, physical activity and sport at school. "Partnership" poses the question of who Physical Education teachers should be partnering with, as in health educators, sports trusts and nutritionists, for example. "Performance"could embrace amongst others, competent movement (motor performance), the ability to analyse critically (cognitive performance), cohesion in teams (social performance), or performance in teaching (perhaps impacted by the absence of advisors). "Pleasure" directs us back to the joy and fun that should be central to Physical Education. …
