Submission Guidelines

Article excerpt

Population publishes original articles in the field of human population dynamics, with focus on the theories, causes and consequences of demographic trends. Each issue of Population comprises two versions released almost simultaneously, one in French and the other in English.

Articles may be submitted in either English or French and are then translated into the other language. Authors agree not to submit their manuscript to any other journal pending the decision of the Editorial Committee, which they will receive within 3 to 5 months. Manuscripts should not exceed the equivalent of 24 pages in Population format, including tables, figures and abstracts (i.e. 70,000 characters including blank spaces, with each table counting as 3,000 characters and each figure as 2,000). Articles must be accompanied by an abstract of 160- 200 words.

Submitted papers are reviewed anonymously by at least three referees and then examined by the Editorial Board which meets every two to three months. The author is informed of the Committee's decision (acceptance, request for modifications, rejection) and receives a summary of the reviewers' reports and the Board's discussions.

The Short Papers section presents shorter articles that cover a specific topic using unpublished data, present an original methodology or apply a comparative approach. They are also reviewed by the Editorial Board and by an external referee. Submissions should not exceed 10 pages in Population format (or 32,000 characters in total). Each short paper must be accompanied by an abstract of 160-200 words.

The Comments section features reactions to articles published in the journal and the author's response. The Editors decide whether to publish all or part of the comments submitted. The texts may not exceed 3 pages in Population format (or 10,000 characters), with the exception of methodological developments duly justified and approved by the Committee.

The Book Reviews section, published in the French version only, features reviews of around ten selected publications covering a particular theme. These reviews reflect the views of their signatories only, and do not entail a right of reply or of comment on the part of the authors concerned. Only the publication titles and the names of their reviewers are given in the English version of Population.

For all published texts, the editors reserve the right to modify the form of the submissions. …
