A Message from the Editor

Welcome to the annual special issue for the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship. This year, as in July of 2008, we are embracing the theme Quality in Services and presenting best papers from a Quality in Service (QUIS) conference. You will read an overview of the six articles and one executive interview in the next editorial from Special Issue Editors Robert Ford and John Humphreys. I want to thank Drs. Ford and Humphreys for all their hard work in putting together this distinctive and important issue. They are both a joy to work with.

I also want to thank our Book Review Editor, Bahaudin Mujtaba for providing five outstanding book reviews to round out the July 2010 issue. First, Cathy Archer's A Different Path, A Different Result: A New Consciousness Model for Business is reviewed by Nilofar Jamasi. Archer's book suggests that in order to motivate employees and increase productivity, managers need to embrace a philosophy of partnership between managerial and non-managerial employees. Next, Cynthia Ruppell reviews Velocity: Combining Lean, Six Sigma and the Theory of Constraints to Achieve Breakthrough Performance - A Business Novel by Dee Jacob, Suzan Berland and Jeff Cox. This book uses a fictional company to weave an engrossing and entertaining story of how these three tools are used over several years to create positive organizational change. …
