I look right into the eyes

Of my most darling son,

The third that was born to me-

Still living, the only one.

Why has he been brought

Into this hard land?

The world I want to

Place in his sweet hand.

His father is missing;

He disappeared last week.

I don't have the energy

To even go seek.

He'll be back soon I hope,

But there is no guarantee.

That is how life goes here

In the Serengeti.

I hope there will be food

Delivered here tonight.

Oh how my stomach aches

For even a small bite.

To the watering pond

It's almost time to go.

I'll take a bath, wash my plate;

I'll try not to be slow.

The water is cloudy,

And sometimes it does stink.

I will try to be quick

When I take my drink.

I will bring some water back

To the home my husband designed.

He built it out of his love;

He is generous and kind. …
