With this issue, we begin a new phase in the life of MQR by announcing www.michiganquarterlyreview.com: a virtual, online, interactive, multimedia shadow/double/other of what we have come to think of as Print MQR - you know, the thing you're holding in your hand. We're not abandoning our commitment to the best of the written word - far from it. Our journal will continue to appear in the form in which journals have been appearing since Gutenberg, bringing you a selection of fine essays, stories, and poems that represent the life of writing and of culture at large as we know it. But we also have sought to think of the website as a chance to expand the repertory of things that can be represented and of ways in which they can be talked or thought about. Michiganquarterlyreview.com thus not only will feature selections from the print journal, but also give you an opportunity to comment on them, to commend or blame the author, to suggest alternative endings - to respond in whatever way you will. We'll also be looking to print works that move beyond traditional print formats: currently, for example, we feature some astonishing poems by Kevin Ferguson that take the form of responses to movies typed on notecards. We'll be linking to material that supplements or complements print essays: go to the website to hear some of the Motown songs discussed in this issue, as well as to see additional photographs - such as the gravestone of the lost member of the Suprêmes, Florence Ballard. …
